Steven has been volunteering with Newby-ginnings of North Idaho since April 2022. In that time, he has become a valued part of the Newby-ginnings community, bringing both experience and a heart for service.

Steven was introduced to Newby-ginnings through Timothy Gray, who personally recommended the organization and shared his passion for the mission. Hearing about Tim’s own volunteer experience and the impact of Newby-ginnings inspired Steven to get involved and serve others in a meaningful way.

What Steven enjoys most about volunteering with Newby-ginnings is the mission itself. He appreciates the organization’s strong and focused leadership, the effectiveness of its programs, and the dedication of volunteers who genuinely want to serve. Steven values the training provided and the commitment shown by those who give their time to help others succeed.

Steven proudly served 25 years on active duty in the United States Navy. He married his adoring wife, Deborah, in November 1989 in Hong Kong. After retiring, he spent approximately 18 years in Bend, Oregon in The Area Agency on Aging where he served in various roles, including serving as Senior Home Services Director, Site Coordinator, SHIBA Director in 3 counties, Annual Stand down as Senior Officer, and Father / Grandparent Director. In 2015, Steven moved to Coeur d’Alene, where he continues to stay active in his community. He served in the Hayden Veteran’s Commission for 7 years, 2 as the VSO, and continued with VFW Post 889 of CDA. While continuing service in the local area he was on the KCVC Board and took service as a leader at Mountain View Bible Church where he was in the AWANA Children’s Bible Study Program being involved with various fund-raising events.

In addition to volunteering, Steven has a wide range of interests. He is a model train enthusiast and past licensed broadcast radio operator. Steven has previously been involved, children’s Christian education, and enjoys gospel music and participating in other Hayden or CDA community events over the past 10 years.
