How long have you been volunteering at Newby-ginning’s: Celebrating 2 years in June 2026

What brought you to Newby-ginning’s: After moving to Coeur d’Alene in 2023, Robin began searching for ways to volunteer with veterans. She initially connected with the County elections office and the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, where she was introduced to Theresa. After a brief conversation, Theresa recommended her website and instantly she felt it was the right place for her.

What do you like about volunteering at Newby-ginning’s? The clients are what makes it special! Robin excitedly anticipates seeing familiar faces each week and greeting newcomers who are discovering the organization for the first time. Every day brings something new and wonderful at Newby’s, whether it’s connecting with Veterans who want to share their stories or offering support to those facing challenges. She reminds military spouses that their family sacrifices matter and welcomes them warmly.  Robin always remembers that Theresa’s grave loss enables us to help so many in need. Supporting her mission honors Nick and the countless Veterans who gave their lives for our freedoms within the United States. Additionally, the other volunteers make working in service to others fun. The busiest days are especially fulfilling and highlight Newby’s significance within the community.

A little bit about Robin: Originally from Spencer, Massachusetts, Robin served in the US Marine Corps from 1984 to 1990, 4 yrs active and 2 yrs reserve duty, as an Avionics Technician (6413). After separating at MCAS Tustin, she worked in the construction field for three decades and retired from Orange County Parks, CA. Her roles included Supervising Public Works Construction Inspector and Environmental Compliance Manager, overseeing regulatory compliance, employee training, and water quality management. Although she enjoyed her career, she decided to retire to devote more time to helping veterans, leaving behind government bureaucracy for a new chapter in service.

More about Robin (Fun fact): Robin also volunteers at the Post Falls Veteran Home. Playing games, reading current news events or just chatting with the residents. She is an active member of the Pappy Boyington Marine Corps League #966 and the newly established Woman Veterans of Northern Idaho at American Legion Post #143.

Robin enjoys hiking the local trails with her “wild child” cattle dog and walking or biking the centennial trail. Favorite bike ride is the Hiawatha trail, and hike is to Stevens Lake.
