Basic necessities. Common comforts. Things that most of us take for granted every day. Gratitude and respect for time served and sacrifices made for our freedom. That's what Newby-ginnings strives to provide to our Veterans, our Active Servicemen and Women, and our Gold Star Families every day. With no hoops. No red tape. No appointments. No waiting months on end. And we do this with the support of our community. With nothing but donations and fundraisers. Because no money exchanges hands. There are no income eligibility guidelines and no proof of need required. Whatever they need, at no charge.
Every day we meet Veterans, Active Servicemen and Women, and Gold Star Families that are struggling financially; they are struggling with the VA system, health issues, PTSD, TBI, and relationship problems because of all of this.
We have found that Newby-ginnings is place where they can come, not only for basic household necessities, but peer support, resources and referrals to other agencies.
We currently have a 8-member Board of Directors and a staff of about 180 regular and amazing volunteers.Their unselfish effort, caring and compassion for others is the life blood of our organization. They are a constant source of inspiration for not only me but for the clients we work with every day.
So far in 10 years, we have enrolled over 6000 Active Servicemen and Women and Gold Star Families in our area. From Montana, Cheney, Deer Park and everywhere in between. We average about 140 visitors to our shop everyday that we are open and we enroll at least 10 new Veterans a week. Simply stated, with the support of our community, we have impacted the lives of thousands of people to an extent that we will never truly understand.
Meet Nick Reyes! Our new Newby-ginnings Program Assistant!
Nick joined Newby-ginnings with one goal: to help people like him. As someone who had utilized support from the organization, he was determined to contribute and give the same generosity and respect to his community that was shown to him.
Nick is a veteran, originally from Paso Robles, CA having served in the US Navy (7 years) and CA National Guard (3 years) obtaining rank of PO2. He moved to North Idaho in March 2023 to live out the values and ideals Idaho stands for.
Nick is a proud father and husband. His oldest daughter, Rylee, is in high school. Aayla was born on January 17, 2013 and passed away on May 1, 2013. After Aayla’s death, Nick’s perspective on purpose, humanity and love drastically changed and he strives to honor this in the way he lives life today. He and his wife, Kerri, welcomed his third daughter, Talon, in January 2024.
Nick enjoys spending time with my family, being outdoors, music, guns, archery and good beer.
Nick is hopeful that in his role he can support the integrity of the mission of Newby-ginnings, honor the legacy of Nick Newby, and serve his fellow veteran community.”
